Georgia child support laws are changing on January 1, 2007
When children are involved in a divorce or legal separation, Georgia divorce laws address many aspects of child custody and child support. A child is entitled to support up until age 18 or until graduation from high school (whichever occurs later), or when disability keeps an adult child from becoming independent. A child becomes ineligible if he or she marries or if he or she is removed from disability status through a court order.
Changes to Georgia’s child support laws taking effect in 2007 will affect child support payments to custodial parents. Additionally, changes are likely for dual income families.
Filing for Divorce
Whether you are filing for divorce or considering a legal separation, our Atlanta divorce lawyers discourage you from relying on a word-of-mouth divorce agreement with an ex-spouse. Our lawyers will help you negotiate a written settlement that addresses important issues such as division of marital property (splitting of assets), payment of debts, child support, alimony, child custody, and visitation. If settlement is not possible, we offer aggressive trial and appellate advocacy.
Our clients value the quality of communication, sound legal advice, and overall friendly approach we offer. Contact an Atlanta divorce lawyer today to arrange for a consultation.
